USAID Supports Strengthening of Wastewater Laboratory
22 May 2009
The U. S. Agency for International Development (USAID) took part on May 22 in the signing of a cooperative agreement between the El Salvador National Administration of Aqueducts and Sewers (ANDA) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MARN) to help strengthen the analytical capacity of the Ministry’s Wastewater Laboratory to comply with International Standard Organization criteria ISO 17025. This agreement is the first of its kind in the region.
USAID together with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will provide technical assistance and equipment to ANDA and MARN to improve their laboratories to better meet the obligations of the U.S.-Central America-Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR).
To this end, the accreditation of the MARN laboratory will enable the Ministry to accurately investigate and monitor the country’s hydrological resources. ANDA will also take the lead in sharing its technical knowledge with others laboratories in El Salvador and the region.
